Using the Theme background as the Component Background
By David Pfeiffer
Java applets do not support a transparent
background so you have to fake it by selecting the background color or image
of the page as the background of the applet. If you are using a FrontPage or
FrontLook Super Theme, then the background image is not easily accessed. To
locate a FrontPage theme background image do the following:
 | First lets determine the name of the
background image of the current theme. First bring up the
"Format->Theme..." dialog and press the "Modify" button and then the
"Graphics..." button. |

Themes Browser
 |
The "Modify Theme" button will appear.
Select "Background Picture" item from the Item popup menu. Then take note
the name of the Background Picture. |

Modify Theme
 |
Now check your webs Folder list for the
"_themes folder". If you can't see the "_themes" folder, then select the
Tools->Web Settings... menu item and then the advanced tab and check the
"Show documents in hidden folders" check box. Then press OK. |

_themes folder in the Folder List
 |
Bring up the FrontLook applet
interface and go to the Background panel. Click on the Background Image
button. Click on the appropriate "Background Image..." button. |

Applet Background Panel
 | Browse your web by pressing the "Add from
Web..." button. |

 | Now locate the "_themes" directory, and
look for the theme folder that would correspond to your theme name. In
there you will notice a large number of files. Look for the background
image that you noted above. Select it and press "OK" and then press the
"OK" button again. This will set the background image to the themes
background image.
|
 | If the background image is tiled, then
select the "Tile Image" checkbox to make it tile across the background
area of the component. If the image doesn't blend well with the
background, it is probably because the background pattern is
non-repeating. You may have to adjust the size of the component. |
Alignment Issues
When attempting to align a pattered background with the themes background,
you may encounter a misalignment between the tile of the component
background and the page background image. This can often be solved by
placing the component in a table and setting up the table to force a proper
alignment to the page's background image. |
