Using Inline Frames in FrontPage 2002 to contain a Page Effect
By David Pfeiffer
In the past I have been asked, "how can I put a Page Effects on just part of the page instead of the whole page"? This month's tip shows you how to contain a Page Effect in a rectangle using Inline Frames in FrontPage 2002. Inline frames are used to "window" one page into another page. Inline Frames are support by IE 5+ and Netscape 6+ (inline frames will not operate in Netscape 4).

Choose a Sampler Page Effect:

Choose a Page Effect to appear in the Inline Frame Above

The Page Effect is setup on a page called "inline.htm" and is presented on this page via an inline frame

Insert the Inline Frame and Make a New Page
First bring up a page where you would like to place the inline frame and select the Format->Inline Frame... menu item.

After selecting the Format->Inline Frame menu.

Now press the "New Page" button, a blank page will appear in the inline frame as illustrated below:

Selected Inline Frame with blank page

Now save the page, you will be asked to name your new page, in this example the new page was named "inline.htm". Now click on the corner of the frame until it is selected. You can size your frame if you like. Then double click the frame to bring up the Inline Frame Properties dialog as illustrated below:

Now uncheck the "Show borders" checkbox and select the "Scrollbars->Never" option to turn off the scrollbars.

Setup the Page for the Page Effect
Bring up the "inline.htm" page and turn off any FrontPage themes (Format->Themes...) and shared borders (Format->Shared Borders...). then set a background image of your choice and add other text and graphics to the page. Then add the page effect by select the Insert->FrontLook->FrontLook Page Effects->Page Effects... menu item. Select a page effects and press OK. Save the inline.htm page and return to your main page. Preview this page in the browser to see the Page Effects in the Inline Frame.

And that is it!
Outlined in this tip is the easy way to make place a FrontLook Page Effect in a constrained area of the page.
